The sauna short

Organic cotton, Tencel and a pouch for a cold pack. First drop of 100 pairs.

One short, built for the room it's worn in.

Two layers with an air gap between them, a hidden pouch for a cold pack, and no metal anywhere near your skin. This is the label, and the rest of the page goes through it one layer at a time.

The shell

Organic cotton waffle knit. A natural fibre, rather than the polyester most sauna shorts are made from.

That's the shell in my hand. You can see the grid of ridges and pockets that gives waffle knit its name. The grid holds the fabric off itself, so air and moisture keep moving instead of collapsing into a wet sheet against you.

The air gap

Between the shell and the liner there's a gap. That's the point of the design. It's the difference between a soaked layer pinned to your skin and one that keeps moving and dries.

This is waffle knit up close. It's a stock photo, so it shows the structure rather than my fabric. My own close ups will go here once I've shot them.

The liner and the pouch

92% Tencel lyocell, 8% spandex. Tencel is a plant based fibre made from wood pulp, and it's soft against skin. The 8% spandex is there so the liner stretches and holds its shape.

Here I've turned the short out, with a gel pack sitting in the pouch. The pouch sits over the area that needs it, with fabric between the pack and your skin at all times. There's no spandex around the pouch, and the first packs are BPA free, non toxic gel packs.

And there's no metal anywhere: no zips, no rivets, no eyelets. Metal gets hot in a sauna and I didn't want it near skin.

What I haven't tested yet

I haven't tested the pack in a sauna with thermometers, so there's no cooling time or temperature on this page, and I won't make one up. When I've measured it properly, the numbers go here.

The first packs are gel packs. Phase change material is something I want to look at for later drops. It isn't in the first one.
